UK to defy net zero targets with more oil and gas drilling in its Energy Security Strategy

  1. “We’re going to do something about the environment!”

    “Yay!”

“It’s going to cost a lot of money and we’ll have to make a few small sacrifices”

    “Oh, let’s not bother then”

    “Okay!”

  2. Onshore wind – oh no, it’ll ruin our local landscapes! We need community to support it!

Fracking – Fuck the community, give us our £££, we’re MPs we can do what we want

  3. So, is anyone surprised that Insulate Britain’s calls to install more insulation in homes turned out to be absolutely the correct call, and that they were largely ignored and demonised?

  4. I’ve noticed more and more Tory supporting TV Personalities claiming all the negative information regarding Fracking is “Russian Misinformation” in the past couple of weeks.

Unfortunately it appears to be working

  5. One day we will all be sitting around a drum-barrel fire in a refugee camp thinking, ‘Well, at least the profit margins went up…’

  6. The amount of fossil fuels we use will be the same, we will just be shipping less of it from Middle East (and replacing the small amount we get from Russia).

  7. While independence from Russian gas is important, we should use this as a kick in the arse to invest in greener solutions. The government love making money and championing Global Britain, yet they refuse to do so when it comes to green technology and renewable infrastructure.

  8. So while they’re all dead, future generations will be looking at extinction, just so they can siphon profits into their pockets and keep shareholders happy. I suppose that’s a price worth paying if you’re a Tory wanker.

  9. Not sure about shale – but with respect to the North Sea, the UK government has a legal obligation to extract all the economically viable oil and gas there, so no surprise they would opt for more drilling.

Drilling new wells could be a nice idea *if* they closed older wells that need more power to extract oil from, but that won’t be the case.

If we want to stop more drilling we need to remove that legal obligation.

  10. Annnd people downvoted me and called me a doomer when i said Bojo’s claims for the enviroment were just more hot air.

    Fuckin called it.
