Nigel Farage’s plan to slash tax and increase benefits would cause a market shock up to twice the size of [Liz Truss’s mini-budget](https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/money/property-and-mortgages/paying-price-mini-budget-mortgages-2616710?srsltid=AfmBOopK98oF8_zcS9jrZM3OfG9BLwA-VBOFAQJSh4U57nh2bRS8EkIj&ico=in-line_link), independent economists have told *The i Paper*.
On Tuesday, the Reform UK leader pledged to [scrap the two-child benefit cap](https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/ditch-two-child-benefit-cap-reform-threat-mps-warn-starmer-3715145?srsltid=AfmBOoqXJ-i91Ty1D-ct9_uWmYF8UsxXLc72OkH9bnL0eBznbZUwku5l&ico=in-line_link) and fully reinstate [winter fuel payments for pensioners](https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/winter-fuel-u-turn-being-planned-as-no-10-talks-accelerate-3698360?ico=in-line_link).
He also restated existing Reform commitments to raise the personal allowance to £20,000 and introduce a more generous marriage tax allowance so one spouse would be exempt from paying tax on the first £25,000 of their income.
Challenged on how he would pay for his pledges, Farage claimed he could save about £70bn a year through a combination of [scrapping Net Zero,](https://inews.co.uk/news/environment/eight-ways-government-net-zero-push-affect-your-life-2025-3415282?srsltid=AfmBOoqsTPCpROxSjJtK3G2cB8n8Nce62bk_i9xn30pWjHv5a_76-L4P&ico=in-line_link) ending the cost of housing asylum seekers, [abolishing DEI schemes](https://inews.co.uk/news/experts-reforms-doge-cuts-wont-fix-bankrupt-councils-3659236?srsltid=AfmBOooBWg-jhZ4rd9vAdfZN40prWYGCw7a9BxSv9Ehhucn-P0t88Hg2&ico=in-line_link) and cutting the money spent on quangos by 5 per cent.
“If you add all of that up, you’ve got a pretty eyewatering number of £350bn [over five years],” he said.
He added: “Whilst that may be, I accept, slightly optimistic, because it’s difficult always to cut everything, I think you can see very clearly the direction that we’re going in.”
However, independent economists have questioned the credibility of the figures.
He’s going to win the next election, isn’t he?
Every expert warns this guy is a bad idea and his ideas won’t work; he gets free airtime from the journos he doesn’t deserve (at least not compared to larger parties); he essentially gets to campaign early outside the rules; everything he says gets justified or sanewashed; his plans are left so vague and without substance that they can barely be explained let alone criticized – and yet him and his party consistently polls ahead of everyone.
Remind you of anyone?
So a vote for this guy is a vote for conservatives again.
I don’t think anyone wants that.
Don’t forget the mass exodus that will ensue if the racist fascists get in. The uk will be left to the morons
Edit: obviously touched a nerve with the racists then. 😂 but I won’t stand aside and be complicit in the undermining of the British state by foreign state actors… looking at you nazi Nigel.
Can’t be the only one who thought he sounded a bit weak from what I saw of that speech today. Like even he wasn’t buying what he was selling.
Farage is literally a Ruzzian stooge back to finish what he started with Brexit.
Surprise? He is on holiday when UK Eu relation reset.
Say one thing, do another thing .
Too naive to expect integrity from him.
We’re happy to risk right economic madness. Talk about taxing the wealthy however and everyone loses their minds
And labour are doing such an amazing job …aren’t they
