We did indeed decriminalize homosexuality in 1944 but that doesn’t mean we were big supporters of gay rights since then. It was still seen as an illness to be treated by locking homosexual people in mental hospitals and using different drugs and even electrotherapy until 1979.
What actually made the change happen was the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgender rights occupying the entrance of the national board of health and welfare’s main office while calling in sick at work (due to being gay). Ofc the general view on homosexuality had been shifting in Sweden already for a few years but this event is what made the change in policy become realized later in the same year.
We’ve even had a gay prime minister. He’s the secretary general of NATO now.
As a gay, the amount of interest I get from Muslims is insane.
I’d suggest the “least gay” countries are just the “most closeted”.

-war, genocide, beer, cars, tanks, engineering, schnapps, large tiddy and beer festivals, traditionell dress: lederhosen, Hugo Boss uniforms
Arab culture:
-men holding hands, men kissing men, men calling their male friends habibi (‘darling’), men who wouldn’t shake a females hand, lamoryant music, no beer or alcohol, traditional poetry about the beauty of 12 year old Turkish boys, traditional dress: long white gown with picnic blanket on head
