Austrian leader to meet Putin in Moscow, hoping to build bridges

  1. I mean, I admire his optimism, but I doubt there’s much impact the Austrian chancellor will have on Putin if even the French president couldn’t do much.

  2. Don’t do it, don’t try to stop the war, polish will be mad you aren’t just buyin your gas and oil while posturing.

  3. He’s just a wannabe Orbán who thinks he will get gas for a cheaper price if he gives a blowjob to Putin. These two should restart Austra-Hungary, this time as a Russian puppet state.

  4. If the bridges take Russian soldiers from Ukraine to Russia, that is fine. One way only, please

  5. As an Austrian, he is not doing this because he thinks he is able to sway Putin, he is doing it to rebuild Austria’s position as a neutral mediator.

We lost that position mainly due to our last government (that was dissolved die to corruption).
A lot of the politicians in that government were pro-russia and are enjoying high positions in Russian corporations. They are also the reason why 80% of our gas today is imported from russia

So it’s good that he tries to reclaim that position as a neutral negotiator. And it’s especially nationally good because his predecessor (who was ousted for corruption) was the one who let all of this happen in the first place.

  6. I would love to know who contacted who to pitch that.

Austria was the first EU member to host Russia after the annexion of Crimea, now its the other way around.

Realistically Russia just wants some fodder for their propaganda.

Optimistically Putin understands that this war isn’t going anywhere in which case neutral Russia-friendly Austria wouldn’t be an odd choice to start soothing things. (Yeah, you don’t need to say anything I don’t believe it either)

Pesimistically they are hostile and want to complain about Austria not being “neutral” in this conflict. Nehammer didn’t mince his words in the last few weeks.
