  1. Jesus they said it’s gonna be big but holy smokes

€: the after pictures, thank god everyone is save

  2. Imagining losing your home feels terrible. At the same time I‘m grateful that the disaster prevention worked well so no people were hurt.

  3. Absolutely shocking footage. Nobody is hurt, that’s the most important thing. But I can’t even begin to imagine what the residents of Blatten must feel like at this moment. Unbelievable.

  4. And it’s not over yet, since the landslide has blocked the Lonza river, creating a huge flooding risk. It’s a terrifying situation 🙁

  5. That’s just horrible. This just comes to show that the evacuations were definitely not too much.

I tried to pinpoint some of the published photos, but wasn’t really able to find any. But my guess is, that at least 20% of the village was completely buried. Let’s just hope, the subsequent flooding of the dammed the Lonza River doesn’t cause too much additional damage.

Edit: I’ve just seen the published drone footage, that is definitely far more than 20%

  6. The longer we wait around dealing with climate change, the more it’s gonna start dealing with us.

Horrifying footage and thank god everyone could be evacuated.

  7. I can’t imagine what it must be like losing your home and hearth like that…

Lets hope the community and most of all insurance companies will help these people out!

  8. The last week i was thinking if that would happen then they have to close down the lötschbergtunnel in a few months because of that dam? and even evacuate Gampel

  9. I mean I have been waiting for this video for 1.5 weeks. But the cost of a village is too much…
Hope their homes were insured. The good part about being alive and human is that you can always rebuild.

  10. Judging by the footage and images, this could be roughly the area that is now covered with rubble. Any building in that area is most likely gone:

  11. My heart goes out to those poor families! I am so grateful, nobody was hurt.
Huge thanks are due to the emergency services and the planning people!
