Gender equality – it’s something the Danish army is now taking more seriously. As Denmark moves to strengthen its armed forces in response to Europe’s shifting security landscape, the country’s parliament is preparing to pass a new law: one that would make military conscription mandatory for women, just as it already is for men.
The shift comes with some challenges – from sleeping arrangements and equipment standards, to protocols for preventing and addressing harassment, but it’s a change that active soldiers would certainly support – as a step toward real equality and equal opportunity in the armed forces.
