After Kim Soo Hyun’s scandal, South Korea rallies behind THIS new law to crush…

  • 29.05.2025

Amid ongoing Kim Soo Hyun controversy and Lee Sun Kyu’s tragic death in South Korea, people are all in support of the Gaseyeon Prevent Act, petitions targeting GaroSero Institute for

South Korea cybercrime

South Korea, especially the entertainment industry, has witnessed attacks of cybercrime through fabricated videos, audios, and AI-generated images. The recent case involves popular Korean star Kim Soo Hyun, who has been embroiled in controversy for allegedly dating late actress Sae Ron when she was a minor.

Kim Soo Hyun

The YouTube channel that started the overall controversy surrounding Soo Hyun and Sae Ron was GaroSero Research Institute, which released images of the duo together, private chats, and letters claiming to be from the late Sae Ron.

Kim Soo Hyun controversy

Kim Soo Hyun’s high-profile case takes a new turn after reports suggesting the use of fake AI content to spread rumours by GaroSero have been released. This has led to a national petition for the Gaseyeon Prevention Act.

Gaseyeon Prevention Act

Gaseyeon Prevention Act will aim to stop online lies, bullying, misinformations, and fake news, defamatory content that can cause harm to an individual personally. The act has been supported by fans and Korean citizens for its noble cause.

cyber crime

On May 27, an online post called out people for supporting the Gaseyeon Prevention Act with the aim of urging better rules and to stop misinformation and protect the rights of people digitally.

National Assembly’s website petition

As soon as the petition was released, people showed their support by signing it. By the same evening, over 19,000 people had signed the petition on the National Assembly’s website. The requirement of the petition was 50,000 signatures by June 21 to push lawmakers to act.

GaroSero Research Institute

Talking about the target of the petition, it is none other than the popular, controversial YouTube channel GaroSero Research Institute, which has been facing backlash for using paid trolls to start hate campaigns that damage mental health and reputation.

Legal punishments

Not just this, the petition demands a tough investigation, legal punishments, and bans on platforms for such channels that don’t hold any accountability. The petition also calls to help victims and regain their dignity.
