THE European Union has lifted economic sanctions on Syria, including those placed on the country’s Central Bank, as part of an effort to support the country’s recovery after the toppling of former president Bashar al-Assad.

The move removes 24 entities from the EU list of those subject to the freezing of funds and economic resources.
