  1. Israel said Thursday it would establish 22 Jewish [settlements](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israeli-settlements-and-the-expanding-divide-of-settlers-and-palestinians/) in the occupied [West Bank](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israel-diplomats-warning-shots-west-bank-jenin/), including the legalization of outposts already built without government authorization. Neighboring Jordan and Britain slammed the move, with a top U.K. official calling it a “deliberate obstacle” to Palestinian statehood.

  2. Something that seems to always be ignored in conversations surrounding this topic is that the Israeli Supreme Court has deemed many of these settlements illegal in the past. Perhaps this is an example of the illiberal democracy Israel is becoming under Netanyahu?

  3. Isreal is “gaming the system.”

the best way to get an international claim to the land is to have your people the majority, no one argues that ukrainians should be ruled by ukraine, or the british should be ruled by britian. Or that isrealis should be ruled by isreal…

so if they can get the population up they can secure their claim to the land in the eyes of the international community. after all self determination is paramount

this is an old strategy that all the europeans know well. since the clean distrinctions between ethnic groups, esspecially in eastern europe didn’t get sorted out until very recently. most of modern poland was ethnically german before ww2, northern ireland was well irish before britian resettled britons there. and after world war 2 the french “assimilated” the population of Alsace-Loraine to prevent germany form ever having a claim on it again. isreal is just the latest in a long line of countries who did this. russia and china are doing the same to establish their claims over their more restive territories.
