  1. Hey, so I’m not ever having kids, can I have some loopbaanonderbreking too, please?

  2. Yeah that is going to work very well for our schools. It is already a mess with the number of absent people

  3. Two years is waaay to much. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love the idea in itself, but there’s no way in hell this could even become a possibility.

The Scandinavian countries do have a system where parents have one year of parental leave, but at the same time there are less baby daycare centres.

I guess we could transition to a system where parents can be longer with their children whilst putting less pressure on our very strained baby daycare centres. There are just too many children per caregiver.

  4. Its only fair for the level of taxation we have in belgium. And the proposition is 2 years between both parents so 1 year each if parity is chosen. It can Even be transfered to grandparents.

  5. For reference, it’s already 1 year today.

1 month paternity leave for the father, 3 months maternity leave for the mother + 4 months each of parental leave.

(And I’m not even counting ‘time credit’ which you can take on top but is completely another system where you can take up to 51 months over your whole career and can also use to take care of your kids.)

Edit : I don’t understand why I’m being downvoted. I just stated a simple fact (1+3+4+4=12). Downvoting it doesn’t make it less true.

  6. And who would be paying for this system? (Please don’t say “de sterkste schouders”)

  7. What about people without children? This is pure discrimination.

  8. Based as fuck proposal. Good on CD&V.
I completely support this. Parents are among the cornerstones of society.

We don’t want to end up like South Korea where they’re headed in 30 years… A geriatric hellscape society.

  9. Ok sure, I’m all for it. As a society we should focus more on our future which involves caring for kids and having schools to send them to.

With what money do they plan on managing this proposal though?

  10. Ge wordt toch zot als ge 1-2 jaar thuis zit. Hoe hard moet je je job haten om liever kinderverzorgster te spelen.

  11. I got one week, and that was a stretch. My wife got three months, but not all at once. How we ended up with four children is still a mystery.

Wait, no, it’s not, I was there for the assembly. And the rehearsals. Many, many, many, rehearsals…

  12. All fine and dandy, but I was on the receiving end of someone taking up parent leave. My understanding was if you had to announce it months before, it was up to management to come up with a replacement to continue work as normal. Not so much luck and I had to pick up the slack for the person that was on leave. If this would be the case for a 2 years of absence I would be ready to bust some heads or at least set the workplace on fire.
