Environment Canada has lifted a severe thunderstorm warning for the Ottawa area after a storm capable of producing strong wind gusts and “toonie size hail” ripped through the region.

The weather agency said Friday it was tracking a line of Ontario thunderstorms located from Patterson to Carp and moving east at 40 km/h.

The warning covered an area from Vars to Fitzroy Harbour and was in place from about 6 p.m. to about 7 p.m. Friday evening.

Environment Canada had urged people to take immediate cover if the thunderstorm approached and to take protective measures against flying debris and hail.
