Former Bayern Munich boss and current German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann is not mincing words — he wants to win the UEFA Nations League.
“The goal is to win both games and win the Nations League title. We want to perform, deliver results and win titles, even though it’s a ‘small’ title – for us as a group it’s very important,” Nagelsmann said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Spain proved how important the Nations League can be when they won it before winning the Euros. When I look at the faces of our players, I see motivation and excitement. I’m looking forward to the atmosphere in the stadium.”
One player who Nagelsmann will be counting on is Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, who is nearing his 100th cap.
“He’s a great captain, not just for what he does on the pitch – but also for the fact he’s a role model for other players. He’s very important for us and I’m very happy for the decision to make him captain,” Nagelsmann stated.
In addition to Kimmich, Nagelsmann has thrown his support behind Marc-André ter Stegen, who will start in goal in the Nations League Final Four.
“He’ll be the #1. I’m confident he’ll have two top games. He’s doing well in training, even though he hasn’t played much,” said Nagelsmann. “I’ve spoken with Hansi Flick – but certainly not about Barcelona’s transfer plans. I’ve read that he’s a potential candidate for sale, but that’s not my job.”
