Goodbye to start-stop systems – the EPA under Trump concludes that they are not worth it and could disappear from new models

  1. If auto manufacturers intend to sell their cars anywhere else in the world, they’ll keep them in. I’m pretty sure they’re required under EU regulations.

This is one of Trump’s sycophants being performative for their Old Boomer Yells at Clouds base.

  2. I like sitting at a stoplight in silence – more relaxing than if the engine is running.

  3. This administration really sees anything invented in the past 30 years as evil and needs to be rolled back.

With that said, there’s no way they could implement this on hybrids, since that’s how they work anyways.

  4. I work at EPA and am no fan of most of the priorities of this administration but I have to say I can’t stand my auto start-stop. In my case (’23 Honda Pilot) it’s almost never engaged and feels like a safety hazard. It requires specific atmospheric conditions to be active in the first place (can’t be too hot or cold) and I rarely find myself in traffic where I’m sitting in the exact same place for an extended period. Usually at lights cars roll forward and i don’t like leaving huge spaces between myself and the car in front of me. So the engine usually kicks right back on after it stops and I’m certain it has saved almost no gas for me. There have also been a few times where the engine cut out at the exact wrong time where I’m trying to hit the gas to jump out when someone is letting me in, for example. I installed an inverter switch so the feature defaults to off instead of having it restart every time the engine starts up. That way I can choose when to use it and it doesn’t catch me off guard.
