  1. A bit fucking late.. but better now then never?

  2. What do they use there?  Asking cause I’m genuinely clueless and curious.  I’m thinking the open source alternative still isn’t as dominant there compared to the usual suspect(s)?

  3. I was already boycotting them because their software is mind numbingly aweful.

  4. Wait, so they are exiting because the local branch is going bankrupt not because they are taking a stance?

  5. lol. Do you think they will leave on moral clauses when it’s money to be made?

  6. They leave because of bankruptcy, not because it’s the right thing to do.

  7. So how does that work for all those companies that use 365?

  8. Putin could have used the time he had good relationship with the west to rebuilt Russian computer industry and develope their own version of OS but didn’t.

Or maybe Putin will import the North Korean version of hacked OS. 😛

  9. > Although Microsoft began reducing its presence in Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in spring 2022, the legal entity remained in the country until the end of 2024. Only in early 2025 were its 13 branches in major cities such as Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok officially closed.

    > The official reporting shows that the company’s operating activity plummeted: revenue dropped from RUB 6.9 billion (around US$86 million) in 2021 to RUB 161.6 million (US$2 million) in 2024. Nevertheless, the company still shows a net profit of RUB 174.1 million (about US$2.2 million).

Sounds like business there has pretty much stopped by 2024 (or earlier) since there was a 98% decrease in revenue between 2021 and 2024.

For 2024, if they took in $2 million and had profits of $2.2 million, does that mean they were just milking the service contract and doing nothing in return?

  10. I got a feeling most MS products in Russia are pirated anyway so…

  11. Bit late?
Also should block updates to all microsoft stuff in that forbiden place.

  12. I have but one question, will Windows update keep working from Russian ips? Until then all this is hot air.

  13. Interesting that Microsoft disconnected the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands but continued doing business in Russia until now.

  14. Ok, so Microsoft is only going to leave when it affects their profiteering? That is ….

  15. Oh, so that’s why I wasn’t been able to get a call with my therapist who’s still in Russia. That sucks. And it’s not doing anything of importance regarding the war whatsoever.

  16. It’s not enough to cease business belatedly. I’d like to see them work to deny any and all use of their products by bricking the operating systems.

I don’t care if they run the traffic network, air traffic control, water works or whatever, Russia can invent its own PutinOS.

  17. I mean cool, but isn’t Russia pretty well known for hosting pirate sites?
