Poor woman. Perhaps some of this new gene editing tech might offer some hope.
Meh there’ll be more than one lad that could get over it.
The cruelest part is that she’s not able to detect the smell herself. What a living hell.
According to the article, she can manage it by avoiding certain foods
Apparently charcoal tablets can help neutralise it

Good fish and eggs is bad so just imagine this poor woman’s plight
What an absolutely horrific disease. The social stigma she must face on a day to day basis, with no sympathy as people will assume it’s down to poor hygiene.
Hope advances in medicine can help her, and people like her, soon.
In my high school we had a teacher who must have had this. We all called him Mr fish, not his real name obviously. But as an adult I can both vividly remember the smell and also feel ashamed of ourselves at the same time.
Honestly most women in Manchester smell like rotten fish and eggs, depending on which hole you sniff.
Oh my friend has this, she was featured in a documentary about it
The worry that your child might develop it. The worry of judgment from other parents at the school gates, or from teachers at parents’ evening, and if that will affect the way they treat your child. On top of everything else, having kids must bring a whole new set of things to panic about. Poor woman, I hope some sort of treatment is discovered soon.
I had/ have this problem. My body odour changes slightly when I eat red meat, seafood and green vegetables. It got so much worse when I was on antidepressants, and I would absolutely reek. Being strict about my hygiene practices wouldn’t help. I guess the medication was messing with my gut. And doctors weren’t very helpful either. I’m thankful that no-one ever mentioned the smell, and that I was able to detect the smell and try to take actions to reduce it or cover it up. But going through something like this really messes with your mental health.
Isn’t this what Paul Giamatti’s character had in the holdovers?
So sad that she feels she has to cut herself off. Got Greek tragedy vibes all over the best to her and her family
Bloke on YouTube called seaside Mark got a disease one day he stinks of fish next day he stinks of poo . He’s off his head getting drunk and gambling his life away and getting more yellow by the day . Mountains of debt . Very sad .
Had a friend with this condition, and it really really is pungent. It was awful for them in school.
There was a kid in my secondary school who came back from summer holidays one year and stunk of rotten fish, I wonder now if he had the same issue.
None of us could understand it at the time, especially as he has a twin who smelled just fine. Most people tried to be polite and not bring it up but it was hard to turn a blind eye because he genuinely smelled rotten and it was difficult to be near him. What a horrid disease.
Wow this must be awful for her. There must be some guys out there with no sense of smell that would be happy to be with her. She’s very attractive.
A rare condition but apparently almost everyone in these comments knows someone with it
I have this but I can’t detect it myself which is a blessing and a curse. Absolutely cannot eat fish if I’m going out in the next 1-2 days and I’ve noticed alcohol makes it worse the next day. I just crack on and try not to sweat too much, keep a fan on me all the time and try make a hasty exit if anyone comments on it lol.
Of course this is all absolutely terrible, and she is incredibly strong for trying to overcome it, especially for the sake of her child. But I couldn’t help but focus on the way she suggests that she was treated by medical professionals. Every other experience I hear about our health services now are doctors reluctance to actually offer any service. So often people’s concerns are not taken seriously by doctors and it so frustrating. I know there are a lot of chancers out there but you have to actively make an attempt to be so callous.
The whole thing might be bollux. Probably is. Lets not waste our time on such rubbish.
My GOD! How awful. I heard about a young girl who had some “fish odour syndrome” years ago. So terrible. Whole life affected and ruined. I pray for her to overcome this.
She needs to find some people who have no sense of smell.
That’s one hell of a superpower. She always finds comfortable seats on public transport, doesn’t have to apologize if she farts around other people since they wouldn’t know the difference…. Can you name a few more “advantages”?
