    Trump is a bonafide dumbass for seriously assuming relationships developed during civilian business dealings with Russia would totally carry over to official diplomatic relations.

    My retort to them is “EVERY SINGLE DAMNED PERSON IN THE WEST WAS TELLING YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN FOR TWO YEARS NOW. DON’T PLAY DUMB!!”

    They’re behaving like children on this because:

    a) they are afraid of getting nuked by Russia. They don’t seem to understand that Russia’s actual nuclear capabilities have likely also deteriorated due to corruption. And we have missile defense capabilities, even if they aren’t 100% guaranteed effective (yet).

    b) They didn’t want “the libs” to be proven correct, and it burns them to their core that they and their “super smart and confident” conservative idols were wrong *again*.

    c) They don’t want to send “their sons to another foreign war and perhaps never see them again”. These folks were super gung-ho for the War on Terror post-9/11, and that America would win it all like in the movies. They did not realize that signing up for the military meant they could lose their lives and not even get their family members’ bodies back.

    They were traumatized by Iraq and Afghanistan losses, and they don’t want to their *still serving* family members to be once again at risk of losing their lives in Ukraine or elsewhere in NATO if Russia does indeed go for the Baltics or Finland… or the Aleutian Islands.

    I understand their fears, and I sympathize with their pain of loss and their desire to not repeat war… But unfortunately, it doesn’t mean Russia will “leave America alone” if we just isolate.

    Russia and probably China will eventually feel brave enough to start taking our own territories, essentially repeating Pearl Harbor.
