  1. It’s crazy cause we are getting the smoke from those down here in the US

  2. The fires are devastating this year already and it’s only end May…

  3. It’s getting worse every year. Last year a very popular tourist town jasper burnt to the ground and now multiple cities and towns are under mandatory evacuation cause the fires are headed into city limits

  4. Check out smoke map of sask where I live. Breathing is painful today and there’s a CFL game in my city lol

Ahh was projected to be way worse over night. It’s a lot better now. But that can change. Damn fires.

  5. This number is child’s play compared to the shitty reality of what’s coming

  6. Peanuts,  were just getting ready to start cooking  now .. 20% of those are probably last years fires.

Im speculating lol but yea I live where it gets to -40 and couple feet of annual snow and we get reamergant fires all the time from the previous fire season. Thats how crazy these fires get .

  7. As a middle-age Canadian man, it is very interesting to me how I never heard of forest fires growing up and now we consider summer to be fire season. We really should’ve paid attention to climate change.

An entire town in my province recently was completely destroyed by fire and not a single structure is left . I can’t imagine the horror. This is the kind of thing I thought only happened in movies, but it’s real and it’s getting worse.

  8. You know, if the currents are right you can smell it in Europe. When that fire caused major pollution in NYC, you could smell it days later.

  9. Growing up in Southern Ontario (toronto) there were always multiple fires burning all through the summer. They were the fuck way up north. We are talking over 1000 miles away where there were no roads. They would send in fire bombers and firefighters

It’s when it gets close to populated areas that anyone noticed

Interesting fact, they did away with fire rangers in towers and replaced them with lightning detectors, the biggest cause of forest fires are lightning strikes.

There are 11 forest fires currently burning in North West Ontario today .

Since fire season started in April there have been 117 forest fires in Ontario alone .

  10. I’m on the east coast and it’s crazy that we’re starting to have a fire season most years too.

  11. Do they need volunteers? I’m doing fuck all with my life, would love to be of some use and the Canucks are good people.

  12. Wildfires don’t respect borders, which is exactly why tracking platforms like [FireMap.live](https://firemap.live) are essential; they show fires across Canada (and globally) on a single interactive map. It’s critical for awareness and response coordination.

  13. That’s really alarming
Makes you think how much damage is being done to nature, to people, to the air. Feels like these fires keep getting worse every year.

  14. Went for a walk in southern Ontario tonight and smell the slightest bit of smoke. Are we in for another summer of Forest fire thick smoke? It was crazy last time how strong it was and how you could smell different trees burning in every wind change.

  15. Our governments cut the fire budgets before all these problems started.

  16. The natives did controlled burns a long time ago. Instead of learning from them we chose to oppress them. We reap what we sow.

  17. Forestry has really been underfunded for years when you look in hindsight. We knew global warming was happening, and as a much smaller country population wise, we had little say in affecting how quickly humans were killing the planet. Now we have whole towns and communities uplifted and wiped out bc of corporate greed from the last 100 years. There really should be much more shame and financial penalties levied on nations, organizations, and wealthy million/ billionaires who disregard our shared home’s health for their own interests.

The community I grew up in was affected a couple of years ago, and when passing through the area 3 years later it’s still incredibly sad to see the destruction of a place I once called home.

  18. Oh it’s the first article about massive, out of control wildfires of the year! Wow, is summer coming early?

  19. Poor Canada. I feel terrible for the people and the wildlife.

  20. Why doesn’t the government send some of those TFWs out there to fight them.

  21. can we invest in a national fire agency already. we literally manufacture some of the worlds best water bombers here in Canada, and dont even invest in protecting our largest assets….

  22. As a Wisconsinite, we know. Our sky was yellow today from all the smoke…

  23. I never remember hearing about wildfires growing up 10-15 years ago

  24. I hope they invite us Australians over to help again. I am ready to go.

  25. Saw the smoke over the horizon today where it’s usually a nice clear mountain. It begins!

  26. Wait a little longer and it’ll be just one very large fire instead. It’ll still be out of control but the number will be less.
