  1. What are y’all buying? I’m actually surprised.

    Maybe I’m just poor.

  2. Proof of was always PIGS and never GIPSI. Not the same.

  3. One of my first culture shocks in the UK was after entering a corner shop and witnessing the sheer variety of chocolate bars…. like “what is this?! The US?!”

  4. 20 in Spain seems odd, i’d like to see what the definition for ultra-procesed is for each country

  5. Purposely hiding the Netherlands?, rightfully so, lohve mi sohme frikandel.

  6. I think I went from 50% to 10% in those last two years.

Cooking is a hell of a drug when you have time.

  7. Ours is off for sure. Barry left his mark on our cuisine.

  8. Yep, in Hungary we eat healthy.

(Please ignore that every portion of our meals contain 3 litres of fat, that’s just a cultural thing.)

  9. Love me chips. Love me greggs. Love me meal deals.

    Simple as

  10. Wow! A map covered in unsourced numbers!

    It’s worthless!

  11. We’re never beating the “USA of Europe” allegations.

  12. Nothing wrong with a Bombay bad boy on a bed ….of micro chips

  13. Pretty sure our sausages class as ultra processed Vs the cured ones on the continent, due to some of the stabilisers in them.

Also lifestyle has a big part to play in it. When you can grow fresh produce easier, and also have time where it’s not just pissing it down for 6 months straight you lead a more active lifestyle

  14. Bread from big chains count as ultra processed food because it has more than 2 preservatives. Same goes for cold cuts and smoked ham (aperently Kabanosi also counts as ultra processed).

Its stupid that many smoked sausages count, but aperently if its from italy its suddenly fine.

  15. Far be it from me to commend Pierre, but I’m always quietly impressed by how much better their supermarket food is. Like, water misters to keep the fruit and veg fresh? Is this the 22nd century?

  16. Tofu could be considered ultra processed depending on how it’s defined by this study.

    As is:
Margarine, many wholegrain breads, Plant milks, Plant-based meat replacements , Soft drinks, and Fruit yogurts.

I consume all of the above alongside a metric ton of vegetables but I know I eat healthier than the average person.

Edit: fixed because I originally ate all the commas and they tasted great but not Ultra processed enough.

  17. Yeah cos the lettuce lady withheld the sugar tax to distract all the fatties while she was shorting the pound

  18. Lazy southern Europeans foraging for food from the ground Vs glorious northern Europeans working hard to process their own food.

  19. So Netherlands? Off the charts? PIGS are known for the simple ingredients in their food. it makes sense and it’s good food.

  20. INGERLAND #1 COME ON INGERLAND ‼️‼️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿‼️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿‼️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿‼️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

  21. Fins aren’t supposed to be healthy or something ?
    Are they okay ?

  22. I will fully admit that the average person’s diet here is probably the worst in Europe, but I think the whole ultra-processed foods thing is a stupid way to measure it. It’s just an extension of people getting hysterical about things not being “natural.” The food is shit because it’s enormously dense in calories and people can easily eat 1000+ calories as a snack, not because it has artificial ingredients in it.

  23. I fully agree with the sentiment behind the map (processed foods = bad), and it’s kinda funny to see the distribution… What’s their criteria for “ultra processed”?
