  1. To get a tsunami/no tsunami warning everytime there is an earthquake must be wild. A constant reminder that your small country (in terms of landmass) is located right where four tectonic plates intersect.

  3. I stayed in Tokyo for a couple of weeks in the late 90’s during a period of seismic activity.

    Opted for a super cheap, basic “motel” and literally every night I woke up to the building and bed shaking.

    Pretty wild.

  4. The magnitude scales used for earthquakes can be misleading because they’re log, not linear. So 6.1 isn’t that bad if it isn’t right under a city, whereas pushing near 7.0 is a lot more destructive.

    8 is a disaster, 9 is catastrophic and can damage an entire country. 10 is near impossible and would cause profound changes to humanity.
