Did you know lions are also native to Asia, in countries like India, Pakistan, Syria and Iraq?
Yessssss!!!!! Hopefully it will cover for Africa
There has been a similar increase in the Indian Bengal Tiger population, going from an estimated 2226 in 2014 to between 3167 and 3682 in 2022.

Great news.
But i always find it funny that for this kinda stuff, we are actively celebrating animals clapping cheeks haha
So India is going to take Chinese manufacturing jobs and African safari jobs?
Good stuff. At this rate purely mathematically only 402 years before the pop. reaches a trillion lions.
(sorry)
That good. More Lions is good. Ideally not in my personal space but in Lion having places.
Good news? In THIS economy?! I’ll take it.
Some positive news in this dreadful times 🥹🥹
Thing is these Gir Asiatic lions are spread over a relatively small geographic area. This makes them vulnerable to extinction should an epidemic spreads in the region. For decades there have been plans to relocate some of these lions to a different reserve in India (Kuno in Madhya Pradesh I believe) once their population reaches a certain level in Gir.
But the state where the current reserve is located, Gujarat, has openly blocked any and all translocation efforts. Moving to the Supreme Court to file appeals and pleas against such translocation measures. This was sometime before 2015 and I remember the reasons being that Gujarat benefits a lot from hosting the sole exotic location for these lions, a source of pride and heritage for the state. An extremely r*tarded position to take with potentially calamitous consequences in my opinion.
For the sake of transparency, I must state that the destination region in Kuno National Park also has issues. Ranging from widespread gun culture, inadequate prey population etc. Madhya Pradesh also has a history of not caring for other translocated species like Tigers and Cheetahs. But these are problem that can be overcome with structural reforms. So far, the Gujarat has agreed to transfer to a part of the lion population to a neighbouring sanctuary in the state. But it being close to Gir, it is but a temporary measure.
I didn’t realize there were lions in India. I knew there were tigers.
Great news
