Healthiest teeth index – Europe

  1. I found it shocking that Switzerland has the second-unhealthiest teeth “west of the former iron curtain”. Does this debunk the myth that not covering dental care leads to more responsibility and healthier teeth?

  2. Teeth are a luxury in Switzerland.

When I was travelling for business to France back in the days, I would get my teeth checked and cleaned there. It cost me 30 Euros. In Switzerland, it costs 140 CHF.

In Germany, health insurance wants you to go to the dentist at least every second year.

  3. Dentists in Switzerland are scam.

Look, I understand this is an expensive country and I don’t expect things to cost the same as in other countries. If a product or a service in Switzerland costs 4 times as much as in Poland, that’s fair. But if it costs 20 to 30 times as much, that’s scam. And that’s the case with dental care.

  4. Can we have a rule that when posting these goddamn info graphics it’s mandatory to also post the source?

  5. Recently I had fixed one tooth with nerve canal cleaning procedure in Switzerland. All together 5 visits at dentist, approx 5h work for this the bill came and it was 1150 Chf. So yeah it’s a luxury here.

  6. Ok, what a silly map.

    This flows in:

    Dental Conditions

Average number of teeth that have been decayed, lost (missing) or filled-in at the age of 12

    Dental Facilities

    Dentists per 100,000 people

    Dental Schools

    Negative Environmental Factors

    Alcohol Consumption

    Smoking Prevalence

    Sugar Consumption

The only part that actuall refers to tooth health is “Dental Condition” where Switzerland ranks… shared sixth out of all countries. So going by actual tooth health, we are doing really well.

So, what happened in this stupid infographic?

We’re below average in number of dentists.

We’re below average on number of dental schools (ah yes, that makes complete sense, given that these are not normalized for population or for admittance)

We rank middle of the pack for alcohol consumption, middle for smokers. We deadass consume the most sugar.

But for all that the actual health of our teeth is good.

All in all **2/10** dogshit infographic. Stop posting these idiotic things.

  7. I don’t understand why basic tooth health is not included in base health insurance. Reasonably healthy teeth are not a luxury!

  8. People should wait until it is as painful as they can’t eat anymore. Then, you can go to the emergency of the hospital and get reimbursed by your insurance.

  9. It only costs 2 Euro to visit a doctor and dentist in Belgium. Why do you think our state is in so much debt? Here they spent more on administration for healthcare than actual healthcare lol. The Swiss should be happy about the choises they can make. Most people visit a doctor or dentist only once a week. Is it so bad to pay 150 chf for a doctor once a year??

  10. Can’t we just have a government health system that covers everything instead of for profit health insurance companies scamming us so we dont go to the dentist enough and have bad teeth.

  11. I have yet to meet en english person who does not have brown stained teeth. And what does “Healthy Teeth” even mean?

  12. Two of my friends got some kind of “all inclusive dental deal” in Hungary, had massive problems fixed, hotel costs and spending 10 days of their vacation there. One could even make a partial claim with the insurance company.

(Maybe it’s because we eat a lot of delicious confiserie)
