  1. I have family there and am not going to visit them until he is out of office.

  2. Under no circumstances would I let them search my phone or my social media accounts (not that I have anyway). I’m not willing to risk being refused for this so I just won’t go.

  3. Yeah, why is there no poll about if Irish people are concerned about the housing crisis, or the state of the health service or the spiraling cost of living crisis

  4. I’m in N.Y right now. All they asked for was purpose of visiting and was I bringing any food. Did not ask for phone or anything else.

  5. I have three trips booked, fingers crossed I will not be detained and banned from the country

  6. I came back from New York last week. No one asked me anything about my phone or legal status. I had more of an inconvenience going into a gaming arcade in Philadelphia than getting into America.

  7. I know lots of people have said they were fine but the risk is there. Irish, German and Danish citizens have been lifted and sent to detention centers. The issue I have with America is that under Trump, it’s becoming a fascist state. He’s already going after universities, the last beacon of free speech. I’m just not risking it. I’ll go to Canada on my next trans Atlantic trip.

  8. Lads, calm yourselves. If you are flying to the US from Ireland, you do Pre-clearance in Ireland. If they don’t let you in, they’ll send you home, not detain you.

Also my family just visited and had ZERO issues, my sister flew from Germany and crossed the border in the states, my folks via Dublin. The situation is being blow MASSIVELY out of proportion.

  9. Was meant to be going over next month, ended up cancelling it. It’s just too worrying right now and you don’t know what to expect one day to the other.

  10. All the concerned citizens asking questions crawling out of the woodwork now the mams in bed and they can use the family laptop. Trumps America is fucked lads, get over it.

  11. No way would I even consider visiting USA as long as he is president

  12. We’d booked Vegas for our 10 year anniversary in October. Sort of nervous about it now. Everyday it just seems that you think , ” I wonder what’s going to happen on today’s episode of America”

  13. There’s not enough money in the world to convince me to go to that country.

  14. I’m not planning to travel to the US again until the situation changes as the risk just doesn’t seem to be worth it.

However we do have a little more security here in Ireland compared to other countries. The reason for this is that we can do pre-immigration in Dublin airport instead of having to do it when we arrive in the United States. This limits our interaction with the border agents and they’re the ones causing most of the trouble for people. The agents here can still refuse you entry, but if they do refuse you at least you’re still in Ireland rather than in some US detention centre.

  15. In fairness, I’m an American citizen born in the U.S., as is my daughter. My wife is a naturalized citizen from Mexico, and I’m a bit anxious about returning from a vacation in Mexico next month.

  16. I just went back to visit my family with zero issues, granted I’m an American citizen. My Irish partner came with me, all his documents were up to date and there was no problem. There’s a very real concern if you’re poc or traveling without concrete accommodations and iffy documentation, but most Irish people will be fine.

  17. Rational American here, with roots in Ireland. I don’t blame you, especially if you’re black or brown. I no longer recognize the country that I continue to insist on loving, if only because I know what we can be.

I have to hope that the inevitable electoral backlash helps us remember our descent into fascism for generations, and compels us to never forget. This resistor will do whatever I can to bring the traitors down.

  18. Lads I’m an Irish woman living in the US. I moved here when I was 15 (my dad is African American, my mother is White Irish). I’m 24 now and environment right now is very uncomfortable. Our government is corrupt and incompetent. I feel in over my head dealing with this. Although I’ve met so many lovely people here (living in Baltimore rn) the way the politicians and media speak about certain groups is absolutely disgraceful. I wonder about the future of the US. To be honest, I’m frightened, but I want to do what I can to help.

Definitely be cautious when traveling to the US. You do NOT want to be put in our prisons or detention centers.

  19. Me too but then how many of us go to Thailand or Dubai without giving it a thought?

I mean absolutely don’t go to the US with Mango Mussolini in there but absolute Monarchies in the Gulf are cool… 🤷‍♂️

  20. The whole vibe in the US is beyond fucked under Trump.

No thanks, I don’t want to visit a country that chooses a petulant narcissistic sex offender as their president.

  21. I’m kind of hoping they make us sign a declaration of allegiance to Israel like Marco Rubio is pushing for in order to enter the US. That way I’ll have a good excuse never to have to visit again that even my elderly relatives can’t guilt me over.

  22. I got detained in Biden’s presidency and they accused me of overstaying. Wasn’t true and they no basis to make the claim, and was pretty scary.

I’ve been in a lot of times since then but I’m more nervous now. Too scared to go, despite having done nothing wrong.

  23. Over and back all the time and never any issues. People need to calm down with the hysterics.

  24. Who have they polled? USA is fine to visit if you haven’t done anything illegal

  25. I have a work trip to San Francisco, and it’s been the main topic of discussion. The general consensus is either to securely ship all work devices in advance or leave them behind and use a rental.

    It feels absolutely wild.

  26. Tbh, considering they have elected the orange fuck TWICE, I don’t see why i would ever want to visit that shithole of a country.

  27. I wouldn’t darken the shoreline. It’s a cesspit.

  28. im amazed its not 100%

im always concerned about flight travel all the time.

  29. Trump could disappear tomorrow and nothing changes, half that country loves whats happening right now and wants it to continue. The people in ICE shipping people off to El Salvador are doing what they have always wanted to do, and nothing will stop that.

    Never going back.

  30. why would anyone spend so much on flights and hotels when there’s a chance your visa will be denied at the airport?

and then you’ll never be able to travel a bunch of places in future cos you’ll have to tick ‘yes’ beside the box asking if youve ever been deported or had a visa revoked…

also why would anyone voluntarily give the us authorities their biometric data like a fingerprint

not to mention there’s zero culture shock cos the usa is inescapable in both mainstream and social media. you’ve already seen anything worth seeing a thousand times on ur phone

  31. Anyone who travels to the US on holidays or buys a Tesla needs to take a long hard look at themselves. I wanted to use stronger language, much, much stronger language 😔

  32. So we can assume that there will be a whole hape of folks not overstaying their visa for decades as they build a life? Or they will return after a couple of max weeks and tell us about how maf the yanks are and the goodness of life there.

  33. I know we’re divided , but are we in pieces lads?

  34. Honestly, What concerns me more than what trump is doing is that Americans voted for it. He’s doing everything he said he’d do.

That’s what makes it scarier, half of Americans agree.
