A survey of only 1000 Londoners so take it with a pinch of salt.

Londoners are typically younger, busier, less patient and – dare I say it – a bit more self-involved. That might go some way to explaining part of it.

  1. Having just come out of an abusive relationship that used the “open” status to take the piss .. I wish monogamy was more sought after.

Narcissistic abuse is no joke people.

  2. For many people, monogamy – often expressed in the traditional vow to ‘forsake all others’ – has been considered one of the most important factors when committing to a marriage. But as time goes on, more and more people question whether lifelong commitment to one partner is realistic. – [https://raydensolicitors.co.uk/news/the-modern-marriage-report/](https://raydensolicitors.co.uk/news/the-modern-marriage-report/)

I’d like to have seen the qestions. I wonder if they presented monogamy as a lifelong commitment

  3. I suppose the 50% divorce rate speaks for itself about the realism of monogamy. It’s good to look honestly at a situation instead of pretending it’s not there.

  4. It’s not if you are so self absorbed that you won’t work at it. There are rough times and good times and to be monogamous you have to weather the rough times.

  5. I wonder what the cultural diversity of the respondents was like?

  6. A quick Google search shows the UK divorce rate at 42% and of course that doesn’t include the huge number of couples who don’t marry & whose percentage is likely higher. If something has a close to 50% chance of failing, it’s probably not surprising that many are cynical.

Add to that more people living longer, the relative easiness of online dating and the fact that most people dont want to settle for a mediocre relationship.
