Apologies if this question doesn’t belong here.

I’ve got a flight to central Europe around midday tomorrow (Saturday) and I’ve just seen [this article](https://m.independent.ie/life/travel/travel-news/dublin-airport-advises-passengers-to-arrive-three-and-a-half-hours-before-flights-41522697.html).

What do you think? Do I really need to be three and a half hours early? Someone else was telling me four 😩

  1. Its so hard to call. You see people saying they got through in 15 minutes. Others taking hours. I’ve to fly out soon myself and I’d be raging to turn up 3hrs early and be left like a prat waiting for a Ryanair plane that will arrive in 2hrs and 57 minutes.

But I’d also be raging to miss the flight.

I think the only real conclusion is that Dublin Airport’s a kip.

  2. Mid day flights seem to be least affected. I have one in a few weeks on a Saturday and I think I’ll turn up about 2.5 hours before – but I don’t hate airports so if i have spare time im happy enough to grab some food and a drink while I wait! They’re suggesting 3.5 hours for peak times, so I think it’s safe to assume if you’re not flying early morning or in the evening then you can shave a bit of time off is this.

*also if you take this advice and miss your flight please don’t blame me lol. Weigh up the options of how much you hate airports vs how much you’d hate to miss your flight

  3. For anyone interested in how it went:

I was flying to Zurich with Swiss at 12:40.
I arrived 3 hours and 15 mins early at 9:25, waited 20 mins to check my bag, and took another 15 mins to get through security.

The terminal was absolutely packed with people, there weren’t many places left to sit and lines at the shops, cafes, and bars were minimum 30 minutes. In the end the flight was delayed about an hour and the pilot said it was because of the airport being understaffed. 👍🏼
