Hello,
This summer (August 6th until August 20th) we would like to go on a car road trip through Norway. The plan is for my girlfriend and I to arrive on the 6th in Kristiansand and meet up with her family (six people) in Bergen on the 9th/10th. We would be with a car from Kristiansand to Bergen and have one car and one campervan for the remainder of the trip. Both will be filled up with hiking and camping gear since we'd like to enjoy the nature up close and try to stay away from hotels, hostels or AirBnB.
Last year my girlfriend and I did the same thing (just one car) and thought it would be easy to find places to camp freely, thinking about the 'Allemannsretten' or 'Freedom to Roam' spirit of Norway. We used Google Maps to find some places (ex. Randvik friluftsområde) but that's kind of where our information gathering stopped.
Luckily last year we met a group doing the same thing and they mentioned a website called Bof.no which made things a lot easier finding the same kind of places. We camped at Ytra Dørvika, Røyksund Båtforening and Jørpelandsholmen, all found on this website. Unfortunately, this website only focuses on Rogaland and Vestland and not on other regions in Norway. Since we'd like to venture out of Rogaland and Vestland (which bof.no covers), we are looking for similar sites to put our tent in the Agder, Telemark, Buskerud, Vestfold and Innlandet areas. We might travel to Trøndelag and Nordland in the future so additional information can definitely help. I've been looking through Reddit posts on this forum already and gathered some other useful information and a website UT.no (hiking trails and cabins) but we'd like the actual tent camping.
We know the general ideas of the Allemannsretten (since we did it last year), we know about the weather forecast website YR.no and all resources mentioned above. I also know about welcometomygarden.org (Belgian initiative for garden owners to register and let people know they can pitch a tent in your garden) but there are only three/four people registered in Norway at the moment. I also know about the apps NorCamp, Park4Night and Camping App Van & Camping but never really had big success with these apps.
While I was waiting to actually being able to post on this, I found Inatur.no but this seems more for fishing/hunting and Naturebase.no but that one did not really help me forward as well.
Thanks a lot for all the help and I hope all of you are doing well this weekend!

In what part?
You need more than a general idea of allemannsretten if you want to pitch you tent for free in Norwegian nature. Start of by reading this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Norway/s/D8S37z67Ml
And continue by studying the maps at gardskart.Nibio.no to really appreciate how much of the area close to roads are of limits (innmark).
I also go tent camping and do vanlife. When I’m tent camping, I always check Peakbook and study the map first. As long as I spot some flat areas along the saddle or near the summit, ideally with a water source (depending on the mountain I’m hiking), and I make sure I’m at least 150 meters away from any nearby cabins, I’m good to go.
Just dont go to lofoten, that place is a nightmare in the summer
