WASHINGTON — Shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, President Donald Trump shared a post on his Truth Social platform from a conspiracy theorist with few followers falsely claiming that former President Joe Biden was executed in 2020 and replaced with a clone.

“There is no #JoeBiden – executed in 2020,” the post reads. “#Biden clones doubles & robotic engineered soulless mindless entities are what you see. >#Democrats dont know the difference.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the president sharing the post with his millions of followers. Trump was not expected to appear in public on Sunday after traveling to his Virginia golf club in the morning. He was set to golf with 2024 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.

Trump, a longtime promoter of conspiracy theories, frequently shares posts from his supporters, including those boosting QAnon beliefs or other baseless and bizarre claims. But the Biden post shared on Saturday was among the most outlandish claims the 78-year-old president has ever spread publicly. Popular social media accounts associated with QAnon and other conspiracies excitedly highlighted Trump’s post on Sunday, claiming it as confirmation of their beliefs.

Between 9:40 p.m. on Saturday and 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, Trump shared or wrote seven posts on Truth Social, including boosting messages from three supporters with small followings: the Biden conspiracy theory and two posts praising his steel tariffs policy. The other posts were his announcement that he was withdrawing his nominee for the head of NASA, a link to a video by Fox News host Mark Levin, a repost of pictures of his speech in Pittsburgh on Friday and his endorsement of a new book written by playwright David Mamet.

Executions, both allegedly secretly carried out and also desired for Trump’s enemies in the future, are major aspects of conspiracy theories among QAnon proponents and other far-right, conspiratorial communities. On May 20, Trump shared a post from a QAnon believer calling for military tribunals for former President Barack Obama.

Biden was not executed in 2020 and human cloning has never been achieved. Trump and Biden debated last June and met again at the White House in November after the presidential election. They met again on Inauguration Day in January.

The former president and Trump’s political rival over the last five years spoke in public last week for a Memorial Day event in Delaware for the first time since announcing a cancer diagnosis.

“The expectation is we’re gonna be able to beat this,” the 82-year-old said. “I’m feeling good.”

On Friday, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he didn’t feel sorry for Biden in light of his cancer diagnosis because he was “not a smart person” and “a somewhat vicious person.” The president blames Biden for his federal prosecutions during his time out of office, cases that were handled by a special counsel who maintained his independence from then-President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland. Trump also continues to lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him by Biden and others.

“I will say, if you feel sorry for him, don’t feel so sorry, because he’s vicious,” Trump said. “What he did with his political opponent and all of the people that he hurt, he hurt a lot of people, Biden. And so I really don’t feel sorry for him.”
