Forest of the Siberian jay, Finland.

  1. It’s a great photo. I love shots like these, not just because of the usual stuff which highlights the photographer’s obvious skill, but also the sheer amount of time, frustration, patience, and damned luck that go into them.

I’m reminded of that guy a few years ago who won a Nikon competition by badly editing an aeroplane flying overhead into a shot.

  2. I Love this bird. We call it koxik, derived from the Sami word. Gvåxik in my regional variation (it’s got so many names).

They’re really smart and social! If you put out food for them they’ll quickly become your friends and get more bold each year. Right now we have a group of six Siberian jays visiting my family cottage regularly and two of them are brave enough to eat from your hand.

  3. Nowadays good pictures come and go. This is something that stopped me a while. It almost looks like unnatural and natural set at the same time. Excellent.
