No. The majority couldn’t give a damn about the UK fishing industry, they don’t particularly contribute a huge amount in the grand scheme of things.
We literally just signed a deal.
If we reneg on it already we’ll ruin our reputation all over again.
Part of the reason the tories struggled so much getting trade deals is because they got a reputation for violating agreements.
Starmer is shit, but the tories are a different kind of shit.
France has no motivation to stop the crossings. Asylum seekers are a bane for every politician in Europe. If they leave France, it’s good thing for their politicians. The idea that France will stop them if you give them money is a ridiculous one that the Tories cooked up and Starmer seems to continue.
For anyone that doesn’t want to read The Torygraph – it’s being “demanded” by Chris Phips, the MP who didn’t know Rwanda and Congo were different countries.
Remember when we were part of that big organisation where asylum seekers had to claim at their first point of entry, and they could be sent back to said first point? Who’d have thunk leaving that would have had repercussions at the channel? Imagine the French of all people just shrugging off responsibility for stopping these people leaving the country? I for one am shocked.

Your daily reminder that small boat crossings skyrocketed as a direct consequence of Brexit. Check the numbers before and after 2020
We already signed the deal… They aren’t gonna do anything now.
>On Monday, Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, will challenge the Government in the Commons to halt the controversial fishing deal until France makes good on its pledge to intervene and stop small boats at sea.
It’s very unlikely anything is going to happen on Monday
Starmer told?
By Chris Phelp. Told to conflate two different issues in a way that Phelp would never have countenanced when in government. What an odious little ball bag Phelp is!
Told by whom? I’m not reading this article lmao. France is under no legal obligation to halt anybody travelling through to go elsewhere. EU countiries sometimes agree to do that with each other, but you can’t keep chickening out of your commitments like a toddler. Grow up, UK!
Dont’ bother reading it.
It’s just a tory moron saying moronic stuff, and the telegraph printing it in their pamphlet.
Telegraph can’t accept that Labour are getting things done.
Tories had years to sort out boat crossings and claim processing if they cared, but they don’t as they saw it as an opportunity to rinse the tax payer causing massive delays in processing times, so those being processed needed to be housed, and perfectly timing some of their mates owned hotels and could charge the tax payer a small fortune to cram 4/6 people into a room.
Told by … Morons? The economically illiterate?
Who would be so stupid as to offer that advice?
> On Monday, Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary …
Oh
