We have been here in Germany for 10 years now. I want to become a citizen, together with my son. I have all the requirements sorted.

Currently we do not know how to answer that part in the form for my son. The thing is, my son was caught stealing in a store when he was 14, some stupid act he and his friend did. It was so stressful for me as a parent. This got into the youth court and got settled and he did a 10-hour community service. The judge said this won't go in any records, as the main focus is not to punish him but to fix/correct him. Fast forward now, he is 18 and wants to become a citizen too.

About the form to fill out, do we put all as "no" in the fields?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Select the truth, or ask a lawyer. Don’t ask strangers online to decide if you should lie on a form.

  2. Please read the critical paragraph further below on that form: lying on this form means your son could get his citizenship stripped at any point in the future. Also you personally could also be held liable here with imprisonment. Do not lie during this process.

Check „yes“ and explain in detail further below on the form. It should be a „Bagatellstrafe“ and not hinder your son obtaining citizenship. https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/faqs/DE/themen/heimat/reform-staatsangehoerigkeitsrecht/koennen-strafrechtlich-verurteilte-eingebuergert-werden.html

As others said, get a lawyer. But it doubt they will tell you something else.

  3. Isn’t ‘auf Grund’ something nautical, while aufgrund is the one they should have used here?
