I’ve been walking past this sign for a month now and it pisses me off every time I see it

  1. As a kid (now not anymore) I remember myself being confused all the time. 10 years old me reasoned there were 2 options

They were pointing away from roadworks (to show drivers how they could continue with their drive, which in reality is turning the road for a stretch of length in another direction)

They were pointing towards roadworks (where they literally turn the road upside down to work on it)

As I’m driving myself now, i sometimes smile when seeing these signs, knowing that “omleiding” would be more logical than “wegomlegging”

  2. Is it the typo that’s been pissing you off, OP?
I have to say that you just don’t see that many of these signs in other countries.
Either Belgium is constantly diverting and deviating or other countries do it without putting up a sign.
