Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Lithuanian Vilnius on Monday, June 2, to participate in the Bucharest Nine and Nordic summit.

According to Lithuanian broadcaster LRT, Zelensky’s state plane landed at Vilnius Airport at approximately 10:38 a.m.

The summit brings together leaders from Central and Eastern Europe and the Nordic region to coordinate their positions ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague, scheduled for June 24–25. A key focus of the discussions will be continued support for Ukraine.

The Bucharest Nine, established in 2015, includes Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.

Zelensky’s spokesman said the president will also hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is also expected to attend.

There had been media speculation that the US opposed inviting Zelensky to the NATO summit. However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed the claim, stating he did not know the origin of the reports.

Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp clarified that it is the NATO Secretary General, not the US, who decides on such invitations.

Zelensky has emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s participation in the June summit. He warned that excluding Ukraine would be seen as a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin over the NATO alliance.
