Did a jury find him guilty or was it a judge?
The UK is a vassal state.
So the crime is “disorderly behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm or distress”. That essentially boils down to “intentionally pissing someone off”, which I can see why contextually could maybe be a crime, but in absolutely most cases, such as this one, shouldn’t. This country does have some incredibly broad laws that are enforced based on opinion, not legislation, if this law was enforced on face value alone, everyone would be guilty of “intentionally pissing someone off” fairly regularly.
Good. I wouldnt insult people and cause a disturbance by burning poppies or by parading a Mein kampf book, just to get a reaction.. Common sense people… “Oh but its my right” “freedom of speech” blah blah …grow up
Ok. So now everyone can see in plain sight that we are in serious trouble.
Blasphemy law right there.
He’s not in trouble for burning a Quran, its because of the intent behind it. Doesn’t seem hard to understand.
If he had burnt a bible and screamed abusive language outside St Pauls on an easter parade he would get similar treatment.
Oh no how dare they change someone for starting fires in a public place what is the world coming to.
I’m all in for supporting religious freedom. But unfortunately, this is literally stereotypical Turkish atheist religion-hater behaviour, more commonly found in social media.
(This is not a part of the culture outside of Turkey. It is a part of the society of Turkey, the person in question specifically did it it the consulate. I’m from Turkey, so I know the issues around politics being tied to religion in Turkey. AKP literally forced politics to be tied to religions in Turkey.)
He bought that book he can do whatever he wants with it.
What a backwards justice system
These days you can’t even burn Quran…..
