King Charles’ illness has meant people have had to start thinking about a possible succession, and about how things will change once Prince William is King. William himself has been preparing for the role for years, and he and Kate Middleton have been taking on added responsibility due to the King’s illnesses. But one thing that’s started being discussed more and more is how things will change once William is king.
It’s no secret that Prince William wants to do things differently from his father. And one of those big changes is expected to be about his uncle, Prince Andrew.

“Prince William has long had a strained and distant relationship with Andrew,” royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital, adding that the Prince holds “a grudge against his disgraced uncle.”
“Andrew’s future within the royal family is beyond bleak, since Prince William is firmly opposed to any public rehabilitation with no foreseeable path back,” Fordwich claimed. “He wants Andrew to vanish from public view.”
Prince Andrew has been in hot water for years, but it all got exponentially worse after a 2019 interview where he failed to explain his connection with Jeffrey Epstein or show empathy for his victims.
“William’s strong stance on ‘the Andrew problem’ is consistent, unwavering and his influence has been decisive in ensuring Andrew remains sidelined,” said Fordwich. “He is driven by his desire… to protect the monarchy’s reputation, doing all he can to safeguard its future.”
And that means we probably won’t see more of Andrew after Prince William officially takes over. “[William is] very in touch with the public,” Fordwich added. “Every public opinion poll has Andrew at the bottom, reinforcing Prince William’s stance. Once king, no doubt, Prince William will ensure Andrew is completely excluded from royal life, as well as all public appearances.”
But this doesn’t extend to Princess Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Instead, the two, who are not working royals, are expected to take on larger roles when Prince William becomes King.
“When William ascends the throne, Beatrice and Eugenie will be valuable assets, and I’m certain they will get involved with royal duties. It makes perfect sense, because he will need them,” Ingrid Seward, royal author and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, told Hello!.
“I see them as a sort of double act, working together in the same way as married couples do. Two gorgeous Princesses working together as sisters would be very powerful. I think it would be wonderful, and I think it will happen,” she added.
The sisters have often stepped up in an unofficial capacity, and reportedly would have no problem doing more. “I think they would be open to doing more, because they like to give back,” the outlet also reported. “They have always been close to William, and the King is very fond of them too.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie‘s expanded roles could come at the expense of Prince William’s brother, Prince Harry. It’s been reported that William has even considered stripping Harry of his title once he becomes King. “It’s no secret William wants Harry more harshly dealt with. He thinks he has betrayed the family from top to bottom, which is the ultimate Windsor crime. It wouldn’t take much to provoke him to flex his muscles when he is king,” a palace insider told The Daily Beast.
Whatever happens, it seems the royals in the spotlight will look very different once Prince William is King.
