Performing Garba during a well-celebrated Garba night sure is one of the checkers for many in India- however, performing the same folk dance in a foreign land on a random day, at a random street- is surely NOT something as exciting as the first scenario. Or so is what most netizens believed after a rather questionable video was shared online. The clip was shared by a woman, as per which, a ‘43-member Gujarati Marwari’ tourist group ended up performing Garba on a street in Austria. The woman was also a part of the group and elaborated on how the group requested some street performers to play their songs for a while. However, the artists initially refused, claiming that it could lead to issues with the police. The woman then stated how the group still did not back down and eventually got to perform Garba for 5 minutes.
The clip went viral in an instant, mostly over how it left many netizens frustrated and embarrassed. As seen in the comment section, many ‘Gujjus’ also commented on the incident, where a majority chastised the group. Many also commented on the ‘lack of travel etiquette’ of the group. Times Now could not confirm the exact location and authenticity of the incident.
“Have you ever thought of playing Garba in Europe? Well, I had and now I can tick it off the bucket list,” the post read.

The video was shared on Instagram, by the handle ‘ipearlshah’. The post was shared 4 days ago and pulled more than 3K likes from people.

“I am a gujju and love garba but sorry I just don’t get the obsession of doing it on abroad streets and being proud of something. I mean we don’t even do that in India on a random day and random street!” a user said.

“This is just embarrassing and the precise reason why Indian tourists get a bad name. Being obsessed with doing this and being forced to do this on foreign soil is just plain ridiculous. Even in India, nobody does this randomly. Please think of other Indian tourists when you do such stuff,” added a second person.

“I’m a gujju and you guys really need to stop this nonsense of playing garba anywhere, anytime,” added a third user. “I am a gujju and a garba lover but I disassociate myself from this. This is a total embarrassment for gujarati folk, u cant just play it anywhere and everywhere u want. Please stop this,” added another.
