The German women’s national team sailed into the UEFA Nations League Final Four with a 4-0 trouncing of Netherlands on Friday that could well have been even more lopsided.
Bayern Munich winger Klara Bühl sent in a dangerous ball from the left wing that Wolfsburg’s Janina Minge collected and laid off for Linda Dallmann (also FC Bayern), who stretched to latch on and bury it inside of 10 minutes. And just like that the Germans were off.
Dallmann nearly spearheaded a quickfire double minutes later, threading a delightful ball to send in for newly OL Lyon, formerly VfL Wolfsburg winger Jule Brand behind the Netherlands backline. Only an impressive last-ditch intervention by Dominique Janssen (Manchester United) denied Bayern striker Lea Schüller a tap-in at the end of the combination.
But before the half-hour mark Brand and Schüller got another chance, this time at closer range and facilitated by Chelsea FC’s Sjoeke Nüsken.
Germany put the game to bed with goals on either side of half-time, Sarai Linder (Wolfsburg) and Klara Bühl putting the finishing touches on a 4-0 win. Highlights below:
