To the surprise of no one. This coalitions had major cracks before it was even formed. Wilders being the one to pull the plug also isn’t surprising. Turns out that the guy that refuses to let anyone else become members of his party isn’t going to function well in a democracy.
I know nothing of dutch politics but I imagine this is verbatim what happened there because it happens everywhere currently.
1. Liberal government fails to address fundamental sociatal issues
2. A far-right party takes power
3. The party ruins everything through gross mismanagement
4. Liberal government comes back with major popular support

The parties in the coalition essentially agree to his demands for changes to the asylum system. The minister currently responsible is from wilder’s party
This of course is not enough for him. He now wants changes immediately, without making the needed legal changes first. If the government did that, the courts would strike it down pretty quickly.
So instead of using his leverage to push through changes in the law, he would rather have a new election hoping to leverage these theatrics.
Wilders was always better at yelling from the sidelines. Actually leading the country was never going to go well for him, because his populist ideas fall apart under the barest scrutiny.
