This has been known for years
Walmart comes into smaller town and sells essential everything. Due to their size they undercut the market. People seeing cheaper products flock to Walmart. Mom and pops go under because they can’t compete. Walmart now has a mini monopoly on the town where they have a majority of the employment and goods to sell.
Yet people continue to go to Walmart everytime. Makes me happy I don’t live in these smaller rural towns with like 1 store, 1 hairdresser, 1 bar etc
A business model that can’t be beat. They have the cash to buy products in mass amounts and then turn them around for slim margins. No store can compete with them.
Unfortunately, they don’t pay a living wage. So essentially we support their staff through taxes.
Damn shame we won’t tax the Waltons. That’s literally all we’d have to do to offset the corporate welfare taxes we pay. Oh well, guess the Waltons just keep getting richer.
Prefer going to walmart tbh. Lower prices, wider choices, much more convenient.
And all the money leaves the area and many of the employees are on food stamps subsidized by your tax dollars while the shareholders are reaping billions
ok i lived through this and was selling locals and WMT. Most locals lacked the inventory selection to compete. Many did successfully compete by changing tweaking their business.
So many small towns actually saw their sales tax collections go up when WMT opened in their town as their citizens quit driving to the bigger cities to shop.
WMT couldn’t stop their competitors like Dollar General, Publix, Academy, Dicks, ect.
Then Walmart left.
And then, Walmart CEO complained about how predatory Amazon is.
Are people just figuring this out, no shit…all these Walmart articles stating the obvious and things that have been known for decades…
Ah yes, the daily scary Walmart propaganda. All of the small towns without one are thriving. All with one, are barren wastelands. Meanwhile, Target, Meijer, Amazon, and so forth, are bringing prosperity to all.
I have actively avoided Walmart for many years because they are so insidious… But I found myself in one recently, and I have to say, the prices sucked. I almost exclusively get all my groceries from either Costco or Aldi, and Walmart was higher on almost every single product I buy.
Who they hell is going to Walmart thinking they’re getting a good deal?
