The most annoying trope in politics is using “protecting the children” to pass draconian laws that curb public expression and private matters, even when it’s something dumb and basic like porno. Aside from stopping actual child sexual assault and statutory rape, these kinds of laws IMO really should not exist. Teenagers and pre-teens, the children that use the internet unsupervised, are stupid and horny, and they goon at every opportunity. They don’t need to be protected from ~~gay sissy hypno~~ sexual content. Let he who has not been baited into watching lemonparty cast the first stone.
Younger children need to be guided by early sex education, informed of things like proper consent, told about exploitative sex work, and other stuff like that. Parents need to be made aware of and somehow incentivized to put proper controls on their internet use as well.
Now, in part because of this whole anti-sex shit, we have a whole generation of sexually stunted shut-ins who are more timid and chaste than panda bears. If I hear another fucking zoomer complaining about sex in a film I’m going to stuff him in a locker and steal his V-bucks.
I clicked around the article and its links to search, and did a follow up search, but couldn’t find more specifics about the law outside of the fact that a simple “I’m over 18” button won’t be considered enough. It seems bad tho.
This is a major win for France and French society. Like it or not (reddit doesn’t), easily accessible porn has been detrimental to society, young and old alike.
