STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The phrase “follow the science” might have a new meaning, especially if the borough’s brightest minds have it their way.

Hundreds of Staten Island grade-schoolers got first-hand experience on Tuesday with the new interactive science exhibits at the Borough President’s Hall of Science at the Michael J. Petrides School in Sunnyside during the District 31 Science Expo.

The day also featured additional exhibits from the non-profit InnovationEDU, as well as live demos, STEM workshops and student projects.

From robotics to drones and more, science was certainly king for the day. The expo showcased the creativity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry of our students across various grade levels. From innovative experiments to hands-on projects, the event highlighted the enthusiasm for STEM education within the Staten Island community.

“In today’s interconnected world, it’s essential that students develop the skills to adapt, innovate, and lead,” said Donovan Allyene, co-founder and CEO of InnovationEDU.

The non-profit also presented two $2,500 scholarships to high schoolers Zofia Gonzalez and Twarecia Hinds as part of the festivities in memory of Christopher Alleyne, Donovan’s late father.
