Armagh footballer Mark Shields has spoken publicly for the first time about being an openly gay man on an inter-county panel.
A veteran member of Kieran McGeeney’s All-Ireland winning squad last year, Shields addressed the GPA’s annual Pride Brunch on Monday. He had come out to his teammates over a decade ago, but this was the first time he had spoken to an audience about his sexuality.
