From the story:
SAPD has said the department found “no evidence” of a “hate crime,” despite online claims. The agency stated the murder of Joss wasn’t “related to his sexual orientation.” SAPD said the suspect will be charged accordingly if any new information becomes available.
Many fans, leaders and organizations voiced their concern about the alleged “hate crime.” The Human Rights Campaign wrote on BlueSky, “We are heartbroken over the death of Jonathan Joss, and we call for a complete investigation into the disturbing reports of his shooting. We know the heaviness and fear that comes with seeing reports of anti-LGBTQ+ violence in your social media feeds. We feel it too.”
On X, San Antonio councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez wrote, “@SATXPolice claims there is no evidence of a hate crime. Meanwhile homophobic slurs were yelled, years of harassment were reported & ignored, a house was burned down, a dog was killed with its skull left on display. And now a murder.”
MySA asked Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales about the “hate crime: allegations. His office sent the following statement: “Our heart goes out to the loved ones of Jonathan Joss, and we are incredibly sorry for their loss. Because the investigation is still pending, we cannot make any determination regarding the nature of the case at this time.”
# Vigil for Jonathan Joss
Pride Center San Antonio is hosting a gathering to honor Joss and to call for action for justice at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 8 at Crockett Park, located at 1300 N Main Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212. The center said it is “creating a space to grieve, process and collectively come together to mourn the violent loss” of Joss.
More than any other city I have ever lived in, the politicians of san Antonio love a good soapbox to rally the gentry but get fuckall done when it counts.
I wish I could suck at my job and keep it the same way cops are allowed to.
“According to SAPD call logs, police responded to Joss’ address on Dorsey Drive over 50 times since January 2024”
Damn 🤨
My stepdad was a cop in that part of San Antonio for more than 20yrs. He hated the queer community. Saddened, but not even a little surprised.
Haven’t spoken to him in 19yrs due to his vitriol. He’s still with the SAPD, I believe.
News articles here in San Antonio said the husband burned down the house using a grill inside when the fire happened
I don’t know enough about this situation to form an opinion on it
Bexar county was never known for justice.
I think waiting for the dust to settle on this one is likely the right move. I dunno what it is yet, but I think that is pretty much everyone.
