Here in Denmark sales of Tesla is down, same in pretty much all other European countries. But in Norway its about the same level as 2023 and way up since 2024 (which also had limitid supply to be fair):

All the rest of us stopped buying Teslas at the same rate, when we realized Elon was funding right wing propaganda, right wing political parties, undermining American democracy by buying votes, supporting Donald Trump and firing people left and right with no regards for their work or impact as head of DOGE etc.
Do Norwegians not care what Elon Musk has done? Or is it more important to save a few 1000$?
As a Dane i simply dont understand why you want to support Elon Musk and give him this win in Norway? When i talk with Norwegian people you seem to share the same values as us, but this sticks out. You are a rich liberal country, you dont have to support him. Theres so many other great EV cars. Or do people in Norway actually like what Elon Musk has been doing the last half year?

Because the new one has different headlights so everyone forgot about the bad stuff.

>In a recent NEVA survey of more than 15,000 EV drivers, however, Bu said that **the majority of respondents said that politics does influence their choice of car brand.**
>“**As many as 43 percent stated that they would not buy a Tesla for political reasons.** We can therefore only speculate how much Tesla would have sold without Musk’s support for the MAGA movement and the Trump administration,” Bu said.

Anyone who says “normal people don’t care” are just guessing. Surveys shows that a majority of people do care about politics when buying a car. At least those that answers surveys does.
People have short memories. Also Norway is expensive and the tesla is still a very reasonably priced car that offers quite a bit for its cost. So despite Elon being a Nazi people choose to igmore that and get the best value for money car they can. It sucks but that’s reality. I got my model 3 in 2019 and other than thin paint it’s been a good car. But I think I’ll swap it for a Volvo or something next time
Your average Tesla buyer hasn’t got any principles. Furthermore they are unaware that other car manufacturers exist and make better, more long lasting products with better new car terms, like cars that can handle being through a car wash, and warranties which actually cover production errors.
Everyone is giving reasons which might apply to Denmark just as well as Norway.
The question is not *why is Tesla still selling well*, it’s why is Tesla still selling well *in Norway* but not *in Denmark*.
People who drive teslas live comfortably and dont give a shit about anything else
People have the memory of a goldfish. Great for maintaining happiness, not so much for drawing conclusions…
Probably because they have reached critical mass. There are a lot of Teslas there already so you don’t get the shame effect. Tesla also got a low interest on loans.
Tesla is bigger than Musk he is CEO and shareholder, he is not the whole of Tesla. Buying and supporting China cars isn’t any better. My wife bought a Japanese EV and I think the experience of the infotainment system, charging and more feels like going back to the 2011 Leaf.
Norway also owns 1% of Tesla, 160 Billion NOK
Charging a Tesla is still unmatched in comfort. Just plugging in the car and getting the low Tesla charging rates is very good
People in Norway with very few exceptions do not like Elon Musk, but they are willing to look past that if the deal they offer on the car is good enough. Tesla is offering financing at 0% interest for 3 years on the model Y, which is a very strong incentive compared to current market rates in Norway. This financing is worth up to 100kNOK.
It is also an important point unique to Norway that Tesla has been a very common car here since well before Elon got involved in US politics. You don’t stand out in any way if you drive a Tesla. This makes it possible to make that choice without fear of negative attention. The closest alternatives to Tesla 3/Y are Chinese brands such as BYD, Voyah and Xpeng. If you buy one of those you will stand out more because they are unusual, and Chinese brands are also controversial.
I strongly believe that Tesla would have been able to sell the new model Y at similar numbers at full price with regular financing offers if Elon still had been popular. His unpopularity is costing them a lot of money in Norway, and they are choosing to take that loss in the form of less profit per car instead of as reduced sales numbers.
Because we are hypocrites and Tezlas are cheap, and apparently they offer cheap financing as well.
There’s an out of sight, out of mind mentally here, Elon and his actions don’t personally impact most people here. They just want a good value (monetary) vehicle even though the moral value of Elon is suspect. They don’t mind or know that they are indirectly paying for the election of the Orange Man baby.
Very good financing. Normal interest rates are between 5 and 6,5% for cars, regular car loan is 10% at Santander. While Tesla offers 0% for three years.
We have no morals. I’m embarassed.
Hard to say, pretty much everyone I know say they won’t consider Tesla as a future car, but Norwegians don’t have a big protest culture. The loudest people will get media coverage when calling for boycots, however whether it’s boycotting Israel, or Freia (over parent company ties to Russia), or Tesla such boycotts tend to fizzle out pretty quick in practice once the news syce change.
Personally I would not want to get a Tesla, but my employer sell a lot of Starlink and I’m not considering quitting over it (and leadership have at least acknowledged that customers have asked for alternatives and they are looking for them).
Tesla has been insanely popular in Norway since the first model S (2013?). Early on in EV adoption, it was the only real EV choice with good range during winter months while simultaneously not looking like a lego car. I would think many enjoy their Teslas, and when changing car they stay within the same ecosystem, just as people do with Apple, Android or Windows. Its familiar. And as others have stated, Elon =/= Tesla, he is just the CEO (which tbh at this point with all he does in different companies and politics, seems more like a figurehead): people use Amazon’s and Meta’s services too, even though their CEOs are union busting dickheads with no regard for privacy.
That, and for people that do compare cars for range, size, cost etc, Teslas often come out ahead, especially with 0% interest loans.
We are looking for a family car right now. If it weren’t for Elon shenanigans we would have bought the Model Y months ago. So they have lost at least one sale.
Also, I think it is kinda different to compare since everybody in Norway are buying electric. In denmark i am assuming people that support Elons enthusiastic hand gesture only drive petrol. In Norway even the nazis drive electric.
Which are the so many great EV cars at a similar price? It’s a serious question.
If you don’t want to support Elon, you have to either purchase a worse car, or spend more. People buying a new Tesla today either don’t care about Musk, or price their political commitment below the price advantage of a Tesla.
Not in the market for a new car but have no problem understanding that the Y with the 0% deal sells well in Norway.
I might be a bad person, but I simply don’t care if Elon is a nazi. Shitty people are all over and yes he functions as the face of Tesla but what share of it does he actually own? 12%? Yes he is a big investor in it but he neither started it nor owns it. And on everything he’s done “bad” in regards to US politics/government. Yes you and me seem to agree, but we can’t deny the Americans chose this, the majority vote wanted most if not all of these changes.
I’m much more reserved about buying a Chinese car where we know the companies are siphoned right into the government and we know they are not all talk, they definitely do a lot of very messed up stuff. But we can’t lose our great deal on cars and phones and mountains of trash from Temu etc so we gotta play nice with them, right?
People are not as woke in Norway as many other places? So, what EVs sell well in Denmark? BYD? The concentration chamber car? VW, the “we cheat to pretend we are good for the environment” company with the worst UX in any car? The “I take hours to charge” Jaguar?
The problem with boycotting Tesla is that it is hypocritical in the extreme. Only about 60% of cars sold in Denmark are BEVs, don’t the Danish give a shit about climate? The most popular alternatives are made in China, a country that keeps a large part of their population in concentration camps and threaten extinguish their neighbors.
The hysteria around a dum-ass shit like Musk is silly. If it was not for Tesla less than 10% og vehicles sold in Europe would be EVs. Tesla is the reason VW, Hyundai and others even STARTED developing EVs.
Best electric car per kroner, that is it.
Not all countries consists of retarded activists 💁♂️
Some people just want the best car.
Looks like China also dont give a shit about the Nazi propaganda.
As a Tesla owner, I got a great deal, free Tesla charging as long as I own the car, the loan was 0.25%. Now they are easy to get spares, more people doing servicing and to be fair the new models seem very reliable and certainly better build now that those that come out of the US.
Best car for the price, end of discussion lol
1. Why not?
2. Maybe its time Norway to step up and build EV
People in Norway are like sheeps. If the neighbour has it, you have to have it. Simple as that. I remember back in the days when the VW Passat B6 came out (05-10) Eeeeeeeverybody had a black Passat wagon. Couple of years later eeeeeeveyone had a black wagon with a rusty hatch that didn’t work and rear doors not latching/unlatching 👀
But yeah. The GottaHaveWhatTheNeighbourHave mentality is super strong in Norway. No matter what it is. Can’t stand out you know
Compared to other Nordic countries, there are double as many religious whackos in Norway. They support Trump and Elon with pleasure. Just a guess.
It’s a good deal.
