Paris 2024 Olympic gymnastics men’s all-around champion Oka Shinnosuke led his Japanese squad to gold Thursday (5 June) at the Asian Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, Republic of Korea.
Japan totalled a 252.993, delivering a commanding victory over the squad from the People’s Republic of China, which earned a total score of 248.262. Kazakhstan rounded out the podium with a 240.295.
Oka, 21, was also the individual champion in the all-around, backing up his Paris title with the highest all-around score of the season at an international event, according to score rankings from thegymter.net.
On Thursday, the Olympic champion scored 85.131, well ahead of teammate Hasegawa Tsuyoshi (83.954) and the Filipino star Carlos Yulo (83.632).
Competition in Korea continues Friday (6 June) with the junior men’s team and all-around. Then, both age divisions will compete in two days of apparatus finals on Saturday and Sunday (7–8 June).
