From groceries to health and beauty products, most of us have felt the rise in prices of our everyday items. As the cost of shopping continues to increase, you might be on the lookout for ways in which you can save on your weekly shopping.
Fortunately, there is good news for those over 60 as some retailers are offering discounts especially for this age group. From travel to food shopping, we’ve rounded up a list of some of these available offers.
National Express
If you’re 60 or over the National Express senior coachcard offers a third off standard and fully flexible fares to hundreds of towns, cities and airports across the UK.
The senior coachcard costs £15 plus £3 postage and packaging.
The card also allows £15 day-return on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to anywhere in the UK (excluding airports) when booking 3 days in advance of your travel.
You can buy your coachcard online via the National Express website.
Iceland
Iceland offers 10% off shopping to over 60s every Tuesday
There is no minimum spend you just need to show proof of age, such as a driver’s licence or bus pass.
The discount is also available at The Food Warehouse.
National Trust
If you’re an existing National Trust member aged 60 or over, and you’ve been a member for at least the last three consecutive years, you can ask for 25 per cent off your subscription.
This means that you’ll pay £72 for individual senior membership and £120.60 for joint senior membership.
The National Trust says: “Not every member wishes to be given the concession, so we leave it up to you to decide if you want it or not. If you decide not to take the concession, at least £24 extra per year will go towards protecting more green spaces and looking after our nation’s heritage”.
Specsavers
If you’re over 60 and buy a single pair of glasses from Specsavers‘ £70 range or above, you’ll get 20% off.
The offer includes frames, lenses and lens treatments.
Anyone over 60 is also entitled to a free NHS-funded eye test which can be taken at Specsavers.
