Germany and France are set to face off for the bronze medal in the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League. Both sides are looking to salvage pride in Sunday’s third-place playoff in Stuttgart. Tournament hosts Germany were beaten 2-1 by Portugal in the semi-finals despite taking an early lead. Meanwhile France fell short in a dramatic 5-4 defeat to Spain.

The two European giants now face each other in a clash of the former world champions. Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany had impressed en route to the final four. They topped their group with ease and edged past Italy in the quarters. However, their first-ever Nations League title hopes were dashed.

On the other hand, France showed spirit after trailing by four against Spain. Even so, Didier Deschamps’ men couldn’t complete a comeback. With both teams gearing up for World Cup 2026 qualifying in September, this clash offers a final opportunity for evaluation. It promises to be an interesting clash given the long-standing rivalry between the two sides.

Julian Nagelsmann may shuffle his starting XI for the match. Robin Gosens, Pascal Gross, and Deniz Undav in contention to start the match. Marc-Andre ter Stegen should keep his place in goal. Meanwhile Joshua Kimmich is set for his 101st cap. Unfortunately, injuries have sidelined key players, like Jamal Musiala, Antonio Rudiger, Kai Havertz, Benjamin Henrichs, Nico Schlotterbeck, Yann Bisseck, Tim Kleindienst, and Angelo Stiller for this fixture.

Didier Deschamps will have to manage again without defenders Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde, and William Saliba. Clement Lenglet is expected to partner Ibrahima Konate at the back. Meanwhile Benjamin Pavard and Malo Gusto vying for a start. Rayan Cherki could earn a first senior start, while Mbappe, who is on 49 international goals, is set to lead the line again. He will be aiming to hit the 50-goal milestone.
