Did you know?
- A0 ≈ 1 m²
- This aspect ratio of √2:1 is unique because folding it in half preserves the same ratio.
- In 1786, Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, a German scientist and philosopher, proposed the idea.
- The modern standard was first proposed by Dr. Walter Porstmann in Germany in 1922.
- The US, Canada and Mexico still primarily use US Letter and other stupid papers sizes.

As usual I expect hordes of Hansen to come at me with corrected fakts.
To my fellow germans in this sub it is the DIN 476

US letter vs A4
I want an A35!
My favourite paper size is actually B5. Halfway between A5 and A4
What if I want a paper size bigger than A0?
Gotta admit, the Germans are based for providing us with this gift.
That’s what I imagine the inside of a German’s brain looks like
truly a masterpiece, sometimes we need to streamline the small things in life…
Is the A0 used primarily as a blanket?
Much appreciated this standard!
I wish that was applied to all furniture too.
Honestly yes. I love you Hans.
Printing a buddy’s flight pass on A0 is the best prank ever. Thanks Germany for making it possible
European superiority. Hans making neat things with Pierre measurements.
Iso is so clutch 😄
See what you can accomplish Hans when you use your autism for good?
TIL the number stands for the number of folds, what the hell!

Based Hans.
Those sizes were introduced in France in 1789, Germans just wanted to put hard rules on them with the standard in 1922.
(But first written about in 1786 by a german)
the only way paper should be sized
Where is A6?
Its perfection on paper, Hans. You are a bunch of brilliant people. Just dont be bossy with the rest of the world and everything will be ok.
A nice corollary is that an A4 sheet of 80g/m² is 5g and a 500 -sheet pack is 2.5kg. When you need makeshift weight units…
And the series of their sum asymptotically converges to its limit 2A0, as demonstrated by the image, perfection.
Absolute and total win.
