  1. More sensationalist Tory outrage bait.

Skilled worker visas are only approved if your job is paying £38,700 or above, with some minor exceptions. This scheme is not an exception.

The article falsely claims that “chefs, yoga teachers and musicians to its list of essential workers” when chefs and musicians were already part of the skilled worker scheme. It’s important to note, “chef” and “cook” have two different job codes and only the former is considered a skilled worker, salary conditions still apply. I do not know if yoga instructors are already part of the scheme and quite frankly I don’t care.

  2. No disrespect ment, but lots of Indians working in the warehouse I work in and on min wage like me, many can hardly speak English, but seeing as a good chunk of our managers are also Indian, who cares right ?

  3. Outsourcing is one of the worst things you can do long term for a company and an economy.
It keeps wages low, it moves money out of the country and increases unemployment by virtue of under-pricing the labour market.
And you wonder why no one has any money and can’t afford to buy shit and thus companies and the economy end up doing worse over time…

  4. But the visas are not being given to any Tom Dick or Harry. They are for specialist posts in Indian companies.

  5. This is such a genuinely bad move from Labour.

No benefit for Britain, lots of downsides for skilled British workers in the IT industry (who tend to be Labour voters), only benefitting Indian consultancies in UK (just like Rishi’s dad’s).

  6. Doesn’t look great, but we’ll see how this pans out. Whether or not this is an actual incentive to hire Indians over Brits

  7. I’m sure there wont be some dodgy papereork borderline scamming of this system if eyes arent on it

  8. The Express pretending to care about the working class? Lol

  9. As somebody who works in IT and with Indian off shore laborers, I really don’t understand the move to off shore. Yeah we can find 1 good worker but that’s out of every 10-20 people we hire. It costs so much to find someone good and train them up, even then they tend to leave for better opportunities which they always seem to get due to the obsession British companies have with them.

Meanwhile onshore resources are left with the technical debt and training which means we have to work over time just to keep their silly little illusion of cost savings alive

  10. The father in law of the previous prime minister is chairman emeritus and a founder of one of the world’s largest outsourcing companies in India, which might explain why he was so keen to expand IR35 in a way that discouraged companies from hiring freelancers and made outsourcing more attractive. Who would have thought that the current government would have continued the export of British jobs to India.
