Good article. If any media outlet knows about plummeting figures, it’s The Guardian.
In 2019, C4 averaged 1.27 programs in the weekly most watched 100 programs.
And Murdoch, let’s not forget Murdoch. Gotta ensure the media in the UK is under control
*’Even if the rules state that Channel 4 News must be well-funded and in primetime, how long will it be before any new buyer starts complaining that this is undermining its profits?’*
The implication being that the broadcaster ought to be considered a precious substance of higher cultural understanding and that if we lose C4, we run the risk of gems such as ‘Naked Attraction’ and ‘Made in Chelsea’ being replaced by cheap, low-brow commercial rubbish. God forbid.
Like Royal Mail. BT. British Gas. Railways. Hang on is that a pattern?
the poor bastard needs all the help he can get… he had to stand outside and clap every Thursday to keep his country’s medical services operating.
Like Gordon brown did for the Royal mail do you realize hedge funds are shorting the price in witch they could go bust
So who is sniffing around Ch4? Which media moguals?
The crux of this article seems to be that despite decades of subsidies via Channel 4, British TV studios are still not competent enough to compete with international producers — and that we need to maintain public ownership in order to keep paying these studios to produce sub-standard output. If what they’re saying is accurate, maybe we should be pivoting to a different niche rather than continuing to throw good money after bad?

There’s [a petition against it](https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-privatisation-of-channel-4-nadinedorries) you can sign.
