Slovakia recorded a trade deficit of EUR 0.3 million in April 2025, a significant shift from a surplus of EUR 384.1 million in the same month last year, as exports fell while imports increased.

Exports dropped by 0.3% year-on-year to EUR 8,966.2 million, primarily due to a 2% drop in sales of machinery and transport equipment.

Meanwhile, imports grew by 4.2% to EUR 8,966.4 million, with 9 out of 10 product categories posting growth.

This was led by a 15.5% jump in imports of miscellaneous industrial products.

Imports from the EU increased by more than 1%, while those from non-EU countries went up by 10%.

For the first four months of the year, the country’s trade surplus narrowed significantly to EUR 299.9 million from EUR 2,065.2 million in the corresponding period a year ago.
