gov: no not like that you werent actually supposed to apply.
If only they could “donate” 100k, they would be laughing all the way through border controls.
This is exactly what I thought would happen sadly. The government can get a load of people to sign up to a scheme and be placated. Once the active war stops, there will still be millions of Ukrainians with no home to go back to until they are rebuilt but we will have forgotten.
This is what happens when we have a leader who rulea by slogans.
Of course it is. This country lives by slogans, everything is and has to be a slogan. I mean look at the fucking term Brexit…it’s just one slogan after another which are either empty words or such a colossal big fuck up that they should have just quietly moved on to the next slogan
The idea that the government would let people house refugees was absurd to begin with. The amount of vetting and monitoring it would take is absolutely staggering.
One thing the government is keen to avoid is refugees ending up abused or as modern slaves in the UK, for all the reasons you can imagine. This was all discussed during the initial months of the Syrian conflict since we have a pretty considerable problem with it even now.
I don’t imagine it crossed their minds to be honest about that from the get go though and now they’re stuck in a mess of their own making. Typical.
I honestly think they didn’t actually expect anyone to apply for it, and so put nothing in place except the headlines for good press.
Learned nothing from the fruit picking application shitshow. The tories clearly have this low opinion of British people as lazy and greedy and they’re not changing it despite all evidence to the contrary.
